| Question to Keep in Mind |
Notes |
Is there more than one entrance/exit? Do you need a back office/store to be protected? Do you need to see the CCTV images remotely? Is this for identification purposes or general coverage? Do you need night time vision or just daylight? |
Where will the cable be run to each camera? Drop ceinling, or trunking? Wireless IP cameras are an option but do still need local power? Where will the main recoding device be installed? Must be secure and in a reasonable environment. |

Recording
Length of data retention is
controlled by size of disk, how many frames per
second are recorded for each camera and when are
they recorder, motion, or live?
Different systems give varied
recording lengths and as a rule this should not
exceed 30 days under the data protection act and
further guidelines for CCTV.
High quality cameras (entrance)
will use more disk capacity than general cameras
and should therefore generally be set to motion
only. 2 seconds pre motion and 2 sec's post motion
Evidence from recordings needs
to comply with certain rules and by and large
needs images to be watermarked.
